I’m still doing my Virtual Walk

I know I took a HUGE break from blogging and I’m trying to make up for it.  Not sure how long the daily posts will continue now that I’m back at work but hopefully they won’t disappear all together.

Anyway, while I’ve been away, I’ve still been logging my miles on my pedometer (now a Fitbit) and am still working my way around the world to “visit” all of the Disney parks.  I completed my walk from home to Walt Disney World in October 2014 and then started the new one to go from Walt Disney World to Disneyland.

So far, I have completed 2,373.22 km of the 3,977 km.  Only 1,603.78 km to go 😀

November Review for 101 in 1001

November wasn’t bad.  In fact I made quite a good start on my 101 list.

I finally finished my walk from home to Walt Disney World which I carried over from the last list.  I hadn’t realised I was quite so close to the end when I made the new list, oops!  I “walked” 160 km (100 miles) in November to go towards my new virtual walk from Walt Disney World to Disneyland. I have walked, approximately, from WDW to Williston, FL.

I also made my first video for a Younique product.  It is a bit rough around the edges and not as good as some “how to” videos for the 3D fiber lashes out there as I am still trying to work out how best to put them on/use them.  I have to say, however, that I will not be going back to “regular” mascara now even if I stop being a presenter for Younique.

Whilst I haven’t done exercise every day, I have done over 250 minutes of exercise every week and recorded over 35,000 steps each week.  The steps recorded do not include steps which could be added/calculated for gym sessions or swim sessions.

I finally got over the 7,500 hits/views on my blog which I carried over from the last list.

New Virtual Walk

I did it, I finally finished my virtual walk from home to Walt Disney World 😀  When I created my new 101 in 1001 list I didn’t realise that the walking I did in October actually completed my first virtual walk so I’m still keeping it in my list.

Now I’m moving on to the next virtual walk on my list – Walt Disney World to Disneyland.  I have been on Google Maps and the driving distance from WDW to DL is 4,018 km (2511 miles) but the walking distance is 3,977 km (2,485 miles) so I’m going to be following the walking route.  As with my previous walk, I am going to be measuring my distance in km rather than miles because I record all of my exercise distances in km and so does my fitbug (pedometer).

I am going to be starting the recording of my distance for this new walk from 1 November 2014.

Virtual Walk – April 2014 Review

During April, I walked or ran, or exercised, 195.73 km. I have now completed 5,849.26 km and have 1,032.74 km to go until I reach Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

I have left Henderson, NC and passed through Raleigh, NC. Raleigh, the capital of North Carolina, is named after Sir Walter Raleigh and is also known as “City of Oaks”. From Raleigh I then walked south to Fayetteville, NC.

Another Virtual Walk Update

I looked at my Virtual Walk directions this morning and realised that I haven’t done a proper Virtual Walk update since 2nd January.  Yes, I did mention it in my 101 in 1001 update in March but apart from that, nothing.

And, yes, I have directions for my Virtual Walk.  I am walking from York, being my home city, to Walt Disney World.  I am measuring it “as the crow flies” which is a grand total of 6,882 km (4,301 miles, approx) and that is quite far enough, thank you.  But, I am plotting it on a map too.  I walked from York to Clifden on the east coast of Ireland, I can’t remember how far that was, and then I got directions from Google from Mary’s Harbour, NL, Canada to Animal Kingdom (because that is the park we always visit first).  I chose Mary’s Harbour because it was kind of a straight line from Clifden to there on the map.  The distance from Mary’s Harbour to Animal Kingdom is 4,334 km so I started plotting my route and distance travelled in North America once I’d walked 2,548 km.

Anyway, since my last update in January I have walked another 700.07 km giving a total of 5,775.84 km completed and 1,106.16 km to go.  I have now completed 3,227.84 km in North America and have now left Jersey City, passed through Newark, NJ, gone around Philadelphia, PA on my way to Baltimore, MD.  I then went through Washington DC, I should have stopped to have a look around, to Richmond, VA.  I am now in North Carolina heading towards either Durham or Raleigh.

OK, that’s it.  I’ll try to give a better update next time and maybe find out some information about the places I’ve “walked” through.

Virtual Walk update and other stuff

We have finished 2013 and what a great year it was for running, swimming and general exercise/fitness for me.  It was a year for PBs and getting my son out of the house and running with me 🙂

First though, let me update you on my virtual walk from York to Walt Disney World.  I forgot to post an update for November so this is for both November and December.  I completed 142.95 km in November and 160.69 km in December for a total of 5,075.77 km completed with 1,806.23 km left to go.  I have completed an average of 6.91 km/day and 48.38 km/week during the past 2 years of my challenge.  If I want to finish my walk before the end of the 101 in 1,001 challenge I need to complete an average of 6.86 km/day or 48.04 km/week between now and mid-September.

Since arriving in North America, I have travelled through Canada into the USA, through Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.  In November and December I continued my journey from Clinton, MA through Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York.  I am currently in Jersey City, NY, I think.

I completed the Swimathon (5,000m swim) for the I don’t know how many-th time, but I have definitely done the Swimathon every year since 2006 or so and I did 2 or 3 before that.  So, does that make it about 10 or 11?  I do remember my first Swimathon back in 1991, it took me 2 hours and 15 minutes to complete the 200 lengths.  My fastest time in the past 6 years or so was 1 hour 52 minutes, until this year.  My first PB of the year came in the pool: 1 hour 43 minutes, a whole 9 minutes faster than my previous best!  Whoop!

Next up was the Race for Life.  Didn’t expect to get a PB on this one as I hadn’t really trained for it.  My fastest Race for Life time was somewhere around the 37 minute mark so quite slow really.  I finished in 36 minutes 44 seconds.  Not bad, I guess but I really wanted to break through the 35 minute mark.  Never mind, it would come.

At the beginning of August I completed my 5th 10K run, and my 5th Run for All.  My training had gone really well and I knew that I could get under 1 hour 12 minutes for a new PB.  It didn’t happen as I decided to keep a friend of mine company on her first 10K run.  She did really well and we finished in 1:15:10.  This year we’re going to get under 1:15:00 and get her a new PB.  My son is also entered for this year’s York 10K, should be fun 😀

The week after the 10K, my friend got married and decided that she would try to get as many people as possible to run the parkrun with her the day before her wedding (she got married on a Sunday).  So, I signed up and went along.  After the amount of training I’d put in for the 10K I wanted to see how fast I could go.  Another PB, this time another huge one: 33:15 – 2:30 off my previous best 🙂  I have now completed 13 parkruns and got myself another PB for Christmas: 31:59.

Finally, as I had held back for my friend at the York 10K, I decided to enter the Great Yorkshire Run in Sheffield at the end of September.  As I hadn’t done much running due to the Summer holidays I wasn’t aiming to run it all but I did want to try to get a PB.  I settled on intervals of run:walk of 5:1 and finished in 1:09:50.  Yet another PB!  It would have been faster except I needed to use the loo half way round, just think how fast I could have gone if I hadn’t had to stop.

I have already entered the Swimathon, York 10K and a runDisney 5K next year and am considering entering the Great Yorkshire Run again.  I wanted to enter the Leeds Half Marathon but I need to wait and see if my husband will be at home to look after my son first.  My son can, and is, run the 10K with me but I think that the half marathon might be pushing it a bit.  Can I get more PBs this year?  Only time will tell.

Virtual Walk – July 2013 Update

It’s been a while since my last update on my virtual walk from home to Walt Disney World but I’ve still been plodding along.  I have now completed (to 31 July 2013) 4,101.93 km and have 2,780.07 km to go.  With 415 days left of my 1001 days I have to average 6.7 km per day, do-able since I have averaged 7 km per day so far (4102/586).

Back in January, I decided to see how far it was from St Mary’s Harbour, NS, Canada to Disney World as it is a point which is almost straight across the Atlantic from the UK and Ireland so that I could map out a route for walking.  After all, trying to map a route across the Atlantic to Florida would be really boring.  The distance from St Mary’s Harbour to Animal Kingdom is approximately 4,334 km as a walking route on Google Maps, at least it was when I originally checked it back in January it comes up with something different each time I try to check it now.

So, using my original calculation of when I should have arrived in Canada, I have now completed 1,554 km since arriving across the pond.  In my last update, I was on the Trans-Canada highway at Port Hastings.  Since then I have been through New Glasgow, Memramcook (great name!), Moncton and Jemseg (ooh, another great name, right up there with the Wallops in Hampshire and all those lovely village names in Yorkshire), heading towards Fredericton.  I am currently also walking through York County :D.  Only about 100 km from crossing the border into Maine, USA so hopefully I’ll get into the US before the end of August :).

Olympic Virtual Walk Finished

I finally did it, I finished my virtual walk from Athens to London which I started last May as a challenge in the run up to the Olympics.  It only took me 397 days!

I’m glad it is finished, now I can concentrate on finishing my walk to Walt Disney World.  In May I walked/ran 197.25 km making a total of 3641.45 km completed and 3240.55 km to go.   I am on the Trans-Canada Highway/NS-104 at Port Hastings and about to cross the Canso Causeway.

In order to meet my deadline of 19 September 2014, I need to cover an average of 6.8 km over the 476 days remaining from 1 June 2013.

I’ve Passed the Half Way Mark!

Here I am again with an update for my Virtual Walk from York to Walt Disney World.  I’ve passed half way!  Woo Hoo!  Sorry, I’m a little excited 😀

I covered 176.87 km in April which was an average month for me and not bad considering that most of my exercise was either in the pool or strength training/circuit training in the gym and not as much walking/running as usual.  That will, hopefully, change this month as I am now back to training for my running events, Race for Life and Run for All.

Anyway, I have now walked, run, swum, rowed and gym’d (I allow myself 1 km for every 15 minutes of strength training/circuit training I do) 3,444.2 km of the 6,882 km to WDW.  That means I am just over half way there and have 3,437.8 km left to go in the next 16 months or so (my 101 in 1,001 deadline is mid-September 2014).  So, I need to average 215 km per month if I am to meet my goal of getting to WDW by the 101 in 1,001 deadline.  I can do this!

Continuing my journey through Canada, I am now on the ferry from Channel-Port-Aux Basques, NL to North Sydney, NS.  When I get to North Sydney, I will then be heading for the Trans-Canada Highway/NS105.

My other virtual walk is my Olympic Walk from Athens to London.  I have now completed 2,676.85 km and have 192.29 km to go.  Hopefully I can get that one finished this month 🙂

OK, I’d better get off to the gym and put in some more miles.

Virtual Walks – March Update

I walked 182 km (113 miles) during March, a little bit further than February so I’m making progress on my virtual walks.

York to Walt Disney World

I have now completed 3,267.33 km of my walk from York, UK to Walt Disney World. Only 3,614.67 to go! As I decided to try to map my walk from Mary’s Harbour, NL, Canada to WDW, as it is an almost direct line across from the UK, I have completed 719.33 km of my 4,334 km in North America.  Since 1 March 2013, I have continued my “walk” from Black Duck Cove towards Channel Port Aux Basques, NL where I will then get the ferry to North Sydney, NL.  I am about 31 miles away from Channel Port Aux Basques so will hopefully be on the ferry when I do my update next month.

Olympics Walk

I have now completed 2499.98 km of my 2883 km virtual walk from Athens to London which I started to coincide with the Olympics last year. Only 383.02 km to go! I am now on the A4 on my way to Calais.

I hope to be doing a good few miles this month as we have our holiday scheme at work which means I should be walking to work (5km each way) every day for the next couple of weeks and then will be back in the gym and pool to prepare for the Swimathon on 27th April.
