It’s not my birthday today but I received one of my presents today (I bought it for myself with my birthday money). Last year I bought myself a Speedo Aquacoach watch , which I love and do actually use when I go swimming. It was especially useful when I did the Swimathon in April and had to rely on my son to count the 200 lengths – he gets distracted easily so I knew I’d end up doing at least and extra 10 lengths!
This year, I decided to finally take the plunge and get a GPS watch for running. Yes, I know I can get/have got an app for my phone but what happens when, like this week, I am back to using a basic phone because my usual phone broke? I then have to use the stopwatch on my basic phone/watch, remember the route I took and then enter it into mapmyrun.com. Anyway, I digress, I decided to get a GPS watch for running and went on Amazon to see what they had to offer. I decided on a purple Garmin Forerunner 10 and it arrived this morning 😀
I went out for a short run this afternoon to give it a test run. I love it! The numbers are big enough that I can see them easily while I am running. The buttons are easy to push to switch between the display screens: time and distance; calories and pace; time and date. I also like the functions available such as an alert every km (or mile), setting run/walk intervals and setting a virtual pace to be alerted if I’m going too fast or too slow for the pace I’m aiming for. I only did a very quick 3 km circuit today to see how it would work but it was great. I can’t wait to get back to my training plan next week to give it a better test.
