Journal Jar 8 – Favourite activity

Journal JarOh this one is going to be short and sweet!

Between the ages of 5 and 10, what was your favourite activity?

Swimming, without a doubt.  I spent as much time in the pool as possible and swam a mile at age 7.  I also got all of the swimming badges, which were available at the time (bronze, silver, gold, honours), before I left Malawi at the age of 10.  I don’t think they still do these swimming awards, I think they changed them. What I remembered most was having to swim round the perimeter of the pool, I don’t know how many times, then tread water for what felt like hours and then take off the pyjama bottoms to make them into a float and then float for more hours!  We also had to get bricks from the bottom of the deep end and stuff too.

I remember other people doing these awards.

I never did them because I couldn’t swim very well..and never rectified it until I was 25!

between 5 and 10yrs, I think my favourite activity was gymnastics, similarly I got all the badges available 🙂

Ah! I too was a fish from a young age :). After regular Red Cross swimming lessons here (Canada) we had something called the Esso Swim program where they had Bronze, Silver and Gold challenges based on swims at certain speeds – pre competitive swimming. I remember getting the stickers 🙂
