Today’s assignment: try out at least three other themes — even if you’re happy with the one you have. Include at least one you would never think of using.
I was waiting for this one. I wanted to change my theme but had a feeling that it would be part of the Zero to Hero challenge so was holding out until it came. I’m glad I did because part of the assignment was to try at least 3 themes including 1 that I’d never think about using.
I have to say that I like the annual WordPress themes. In 2010, I started with Twenty Ten and then changed to Twenty Eleven, didn’t really like that one so changed to something else, I can’t remember what. I used Twenty Twelve for a while before settling on Andreas04. I loved having 2 columns for widgets. Last year I changed from Andreas04 because the photos in the posts didn’t always fit properly. I tried Twenty Thirteen but didn’t really like it so changed it again. At some point last year, I finally settled on Twenty Ten with my own header, it wasn’t great but I like widgets so it worked for me.
This time round, I knew I wanted to try Twenty Fourteen and had already decided that I was going to give that theme a good go. However, the task is to try at least 3 new themes including one I’d never think of using so I tried the following:
Yoko – I have to say, I liked this one. It is a little bit simpler than usual but I think I could make it work. If I don’t like the one I decided to change to after a month or so, I’ll give this one a whirl.
Chateau – Really not me, I’m not entirely sure why. Maybe it’s too fancy or too clean or… something.
Flounder – Another one I quite like the look of and my give a whirl if I don’t like my current theme in the future.
Bushwick – This one isn’t for me either. I like my widgets too much and I’m not sure I’d be able to settle on a picture for the left column. Although I could change the picture on a regular basis, I suppose.
