Getting out of CHAOS

I am tired of living in a mess.  This is mainly due to too much stuff and not enough room so I’m going to try to change this a little step at a time and Flylady is, hopefully, going to help me.  I have used Flylady before, and it works, but I stopped when other things in my life took over from trying to fight what turned out to be a losing battle with the house.  This time though I’m going to try to keep at it and not worry if I miss a day or a week or a mission or a zone.  One day I will get out of CHAOS (can’t have anyone over syndrome).

So, I started on 23 December and signed up for Flylady’s emails so that I get a reminder every day of what I need to do and what is coming up.  Before I start with the Flylady Flight Plan though, I have to go through the 31 Baby Steps.  They are quite simple but I have already discovered that I won’t be following one of them to the letter:

“Get dressed to shoes”

Basically, what Flylady is saying is that in order to feel like we are ready for the day and ready to tackle everything that needs to be done we need to be dressed for work.  For the most part I agree.  If I’m still in my pyjamas I’m not going to want to do anything other than stay in bed or lounge on the settee but I don’t need to be wearing my shoes to get things done in the house.  My mother is a case in point, she has a strict no shoes in the house policy and she doesn’t suffer from CHAOS (even when my sister and I were still living at home).  I also have a no shoes in the house policy so I will get dressed up to but not including shoes, slippers will have to do.

The big step for me, and the one I am going to endeavour to follow even if I fall off track, is “shine your sink”.  I will make sure that I complete all the washing up, put everything away and have a clean sink before I go to bed at night.  My late mother-in-law never went to bed with a sink full of dishes and she didn’t suffer from CHAOS either so maybe there is something in it.

So, here I am on Day 4 of Baby Steps and so far so good.  Here’s hoping that I get through the other 27 days and beyond.
